Welcome to the WEATHERPICTURES website 2011

2011 update The Elan Valley

I am devoting this update to the Elan Valley area of Mid Wales. My family home is but a few miles from here and despite spending over 30 years working away now it is still the place I would spend the most time either taking photographs or just enjoying the views.

Most of the 400,000 people who visit the area every year do so during the sociable day hours and not wanting to take away from it's beauty at this time there are some stunning scenes to see during the very early mornings - and I mean early !! .This time of year sunrise gets ever earlier combine this with the mist if you time it right and you will be in for some breathtaking scenes...

The slide show is a collection up to and including some photographs taken on the morning of Friday 8 th April 2011. This was one of those 'perfect mornings' where the mist and low angle sun provided the perfect outdoor lighting. Photography is just pushing the button, the time and place is the tricky bit .

This collection and others can be seen on my icpic.co.uk website. Giclee light fast prints can be purchased complete with mount packs to fit into a 20 x 16 inch frame.

Canvas Prints are also available in a selection of sizes. There are also details of how to purchase prints on the' Buy Prints' link on the top left panel.

The Elan Valley Estate is owned by Dŵr Cymru (Welsh Water). The reservoirs constructed to provide water to serve the people of Birminham as it still does today. In recent years Hydropower production of Electricity has been incoporated to the Dam walls providing 4.2 Megawatts at of electricity back into the grid at peak times- all by underground cables.

The Estate contains 70 square miles of moorland, bog, woodland, river and reservoirs. Don't let this put you off visiting the area as the roads provide easy navigation around a well signposted route. All of the photographs on the slide show above have been taken from within a few metres of the main road !!

The Elan Valley is situated near the Powys town of Rhayader in mid Wales.

If you are planning a short stay in the area here are some other places of interest nearby
